Yoga & Osteoporosis:
A Practice for Better Bone Health
with Irene Malachowsky, RN,
RYT-500, HeartMath Certified Coach & Practitioner
Saturday, March 2, 1:30 pm - 4 pm

Osteoporosis comes about when there is an imbalance between the forces creating bone and those reabsorbing it. About 1 in 2 women over the age of 50 will break a bone due to osteoporosis. Medical therapies can be effective; however, compliance is often poor. Encouraging new research shows that yoga is surprisingly protective when it comes to staving off fractures and helping to prevent osteoporosis by stimulating osteocytes, the cells that make bone, strengthening them.

In this program, you will explore yoga practices and principals for better bone health. You will learn and practice modifications of each pose to enable you to safely practice yoga according to your level of ability and receive handouts for continued home practice. Irene's intention is to create a safe, supportive, positive experience to inspire you to discover ways in which the practice of yoga can continue to support you through your life's journey.

With age, Irene's practice and study of yoga continues to evolve as she turns to yoga and other healing pathways to support her health and well-being. She finds inspiration in the opportunity to share the benefits of yoga with others.

Cost is $45 for members and $50 for non-members. Registration deadline is March 1.

Insight Meditation
with Roseann Pollack
Fridays, March 22 - April 26, 5:45 pm - 6:45 pm

Insight Meditation is "clear seeing" into the true nature of reality. Developing concentration and mindfulness, we acquire the ability to see deeply into the truth of our experience without judgments, projections, or distortions. As the hold of negativity is weakened, we begin to cultivate a peacefulness of mind and openness of heart. The willingness to be present without clinging to what is pleasant nor avoiding that which is unpleasant is the foundation of freedom from suffering. Over time the fruits of the practice are many and include loving-kindess, compassion, wisdom, and equanimity. The teachings are given freely and students may exercise generosity by making a donation (not included in membership). This six-week series will provide the tools to develop a sound meditation practice. The series is progressive and comprehensive. Each class builds on prior weeks' instructions.
